Presentation: Triple pinions and double helical gears – the pinnacle of gear grinding

The aerospace sector presents a number of machining tasks for the precision finishing of gears that are both interesting and challenging. Examples of this include triple pinions and double helical gears, both of which can be machined on gear grinding machines manufactured by KAPP NILES. An essential component of the processes and procedures used is the machine-integrated alignment and measurement systems, including the necessary software. Only the interaction of all these measurement and grinding functions makes it possible to manufacture these workpieces to the highest quality standards in a reliable and cost-effective manner.

Gear profile grinding machine KNG 5P expert

KAPP NILES presents the KNG 5P expert gear profile grinding machine

The new KNG 5P expert profile grinding machine from KAPP NILES combines high flexibility and outstanding set-up efficiency with an exceptionally compact design. It is designed for the precise machining of external and internal gears. As a next level development of the successful ZE series, it combines the established advantages with numerous additional features. This enables efficient production processes while ensuring excellent gear quality and a wide variety of applications.

The machine’s versatile application range includes drive wheels for rail vehicles, components for wind power and automotive transmissions, as well as gear worms for industrial gearboxes.

Gear measuring machine for medium-sized workpieces KNM 6X

High-precision gear measurement with intelligent clamping technology and a thermally stable machine design

The analytical measuring machine KNM 6X from KAPP NILES combines maximum measurement accuracy with a compact, thermally stable machine design, enabling fast measuring procedures with high process reliability.

It is designed for high-precision measurement of gears, gear tools and other rotationally symmetric workpieces such as rotors, bevel gears, shafts, and similar components.

The KNM 6X integrates modern drive technology, intelligent clamping systems and high-performance software packages to create a complete system for reproducible measurement results and short measuring times.

The patented quick change clamping system reduces non-productive times. The motorised adjustable tailstock enables optimum workpiece accommodation and expands the machine’s working area. The KNM 6X can be used both in the lab and directly on the shop floor. Thanks to the integrated air spring system for vibration isolation, no separate foundation is required.

The application range covers gears with diameters of up to 750 mm as well as a wide variety of rotationally symmetric workpieces for applications in the mobility, automation, and energy segments.

Precision without compromise – CBN grinding tools from KAPP NILES

KAPP NILES manufactures non-dressable, electroplated CBN tools for hard and soft finishing of gears and profiles. The new CBN pro product line expands the portfolio of grinding tools. For decades, KAPP NILES tools have ranked among the world's leading products. They are used whenever the highest quality standards, performance and efficiency are required.

Diamond dressing tools for maximum precision and cost efficiency

KAPP NILES manufactures diamond profile rolls as well as diamond form rolls for grinding with ceramic-bonded worms. In large-scale production, the dressing of the worms can also be carried out with highly productive multi-ribbed diamond profile rolls. Diamond form rolls in sintered design are offered for dressing of profile grinding wheels. Diamond dressing gears for profiling dressable honing rings complete the portfolio.

CBN pro – Tools for special requirements

CBN pro is a new generation of grinding tools that set themselves apart from conventional solutions, offering product-specific benefits such as enhanced surface finish, improved profile accuracy, higher performance, and extended tool life.

The new CBN pro tools from KAPP NILES are particularly well suited to aerospace applications. While standard CBN tools previously achieved surface qualities of Ra < 0.4 μm, these new grinding wheels enable surface qualities of Ra < 0.2 μm on the workpiece.

In addition, an optimised profile shape with f < 1.0 μm can be achieved on the tool. Improved reproducibility of surface finish and profile geometry reduces adjustment effort during tool set-up and significantly increases process reliability for customers.

CBN pro roughing and finishing wheels for rotor grinding are also available. These tools were specifically developed for machining cast rotors and complement the established CBN product line.
